Frequently Asked Questions
What is your rental process?
You must be 18 years or older to rent a storage unit. We are required by the Self-Storage Act of South Carolina to complete a rental contract. We require a valid driver’s license or other picture ID. At the time of the rental, you must pay the first month’s rent plus a $10 refundable deposit for the gate access key.
Why do you require a refundable key deposit?
Our security system uses a proximity card reader to control access to our facility. We believe that this system is more secure than a digital keypad entry system. To gain access to our facility, each customer must possess a card key that is programmed with a unique ID number. The refundable key deposit covers the cost of this card key in the event that it is not returned to us. At the end of the rental period, if you return the card key and your unit is in good standing, then your deposit is refunded.
How long does it take to complete a rental agreement?
This is dependent upon a number of factors, including the amount of time that the customer spends reading the contract. The contract is two pages long, but it is required by South Carolina law. We strive to complete this process within ten to fifteen minutes. At the end of the process, we provide the customer with a photocopy of the contract.
What kind of security do you have?
Our entire facility is enclosed with a security fence. We have an automated gate access system that only allows our customers with a valid card key to enter and leave the facility. We have a video surveillance system that continuously records to a DVR. We have dusk-to-dawn lighting throughout most of the facility. We also require round disc locks on all of our units. These locks are currently provided free with the rental agreement.
What do I have to do when I move out?
We ask that you contact us at least two days prior to vacating the premises. This allows us to provide you with the status of your account. When your unit is empty and swept clean, just stop by our office to return the gate access key. We will close out your account and refund the gate access key deposit, if your unit is in good standing. We prorate the occupancy by day, so any overpayment for the remainder of that month is refunded. We do require a minimum of a one month rental, so rent is not refunded for any move-out that occurs before the first month expires.
Do you provide moving services?
We do not provide any moving services at the current time. Most of our customers transport their items in their own vehicles. Some customers rent a truck from a local rental facility. A small percentage of our customers use professional movers, which can be found online or in the local phone listings.
Do you have trash dumpsters on site?
We do not provide trash dumpsters for two reasons. First, our past experience indicates that having dumpsters available encourages trash to accumulate, which makes the storage area less desirable for our customers. Secondly, we try to minimize our expenses in order to provide our customers with a reasonable option for storage. Garbage collection and removal is expensive for a facility of our size.
